Transformational Change: Exponential Growth and The Human Impact
“The future always arrives too fast - and in the wrong order” (Alvin Toffler) Friday,
31 May 2019 – Saturday, 1 June 2019
Dear Delegates,
Exponential change is our new reality. The pace, scale, reach, and the potential impacts of the drivers of change are extraordinary and represent both challenge and opportunity to our businesses. Our analogue, physical world mind-set is constantly being challenged by an increasingly digital world. The focus of life, society and business is switching from an understanding and appreciation of the value of physical products and traditional services to the value of data and information. The focus is increasingly on the development and potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. We look for signals, predictions, and scenarios about how the emerging future will change the nature of business and government, and we try to imagine the impact of new business sectors driven by the explosion in science and technology developments from AI, robotics, to 3D and 4D printing, nanotechnology, to human augmentation and synthetic biology. To navigate this transitional period to a digitized world we need to understand the nature of transformation.
Today we will consider these areas:
• The context for the journey ahead.
• Exploring how our competitors are transforming their organisations using technology, new leadership practices and a new team mindset.
• Discovering how businesses from manufacturing, to service, to government departments, face the challenge of change using an exponential growth mindset and approach.
• Examining the organisational changes necessary to achieve transformation.
• Exploring human-centric leadership; how to gain trust, buy-in, and performance from our teams, and what skills are required to lead our organisations through an era of continuous change.
We are very excited to welcome you this session of the Windsor Insights development and consultation series, and we look forward to your contribution to the discussion.

“International Alliance” the private business club, brought together members and guests to St Georges House, Windsor Castle. It is part of an ongoing series of consultations namely, “Windsor Insights” to exchange expertise on modern-agenda business issues. The May session overarching theme was, Transformational Change: exponential growth and human impact. This session during the day was focussed on:
ACCELERATING GROWTH AND BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION
It is common for senior management to look at how to use technology to drive down costs and transform business. It is also common to invest in developing talent, however Guillermo Armenta of Horizones Consulting talked us through other ways to achieve business growth.
Business transformation strategies in 70% of cases do not get implemented due to a lack of attention to corporate culture, team values, poor decision-making and a lack of modern measurement tools.
Guillermo whilst at Windsor Insight, a business-growth consultation group, stressed that interventions in all their forms should be evaluated for their impact on real value. This is value for the business, customers, it's people and the community. The three areas Guillermo focussed on:
MARKETING: RETURN ON EXPERIENCE (ROX)
ROX is the new marketing currency. A great deal can be lost if there is no attention in this area. This is a detailed measurement tool that shows the real return on investment for each new customer experiential touch point. As before the clear objectives of the overall business must be clear at the outset.
FINANCE: RETURN ON INTANGIBLE ASSETS - ACHIEVING REAL COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
EXAMPLES OF INTANGIBLE ASSETS (not exhaustive)
THE WINS:
HUMAN IMPACT (HR): RETURN ON INTERVENTIONS
Any intervention should start with an analysis of the current situation in numbers and include interviews so as to provide a benchmark. Measurement tools can be so comprehensive that it is possible to pinpoint the root cause of a problem to a department or management style within a department. Whatever the action, it has to be improving a real priority problem that has impact on meeting business goals. It is important to understand the facts before implementing the wrong intervention.
In terms of poor diversity and inclusion as an example it could have many causes:
BOARD LEVEL BUY-IN
Board-level buy-in for business growth and transformation proposals was highlighted as the biggest barrier faced by senior management. The delegates said there is often a conflict amongst the board, some seeking change and those that want business as usual. It was evident that those organisations that are not active in this area are most likely to see the business decline or go out of business altogether.
Some of the companies in the consultation said that their company did not seriously look at all of these options for growth and would take steps to raise it within their organisation. There were however, great success examples in the room willing to share with others on how they think and operate and have experienced success.
Presenting, financial models, backed up with evidence and scenarios to the board is more likely to be achieve buy-in for new growth and transformation proposals.
CONCLUSION
All forms of growth must be considered, including:

- A return on initiatives undertaken within human resource departments
- ROX (return on customer experience)
- Valuing intangible assets

ROX is the new marketing currency. A great deal can be lost if there is no attention in this area. This is a detailed measurement tool that shows the real return on investment for each new customer experiential touch point. As before the clear objectives of the overall business must be clear at the outset.
FINANCE: RETURN ON INTANGIBLE ASSETS - ACHIEVING REAL COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
- Do you want to increase the value of your business?
- Do you want to get a better credit rating or reduced commercial loan rate?
- Do you want to increase the company’s brand value and more easily attract loyal customers and talent?
EXAMPLES OF INTANGIBLE ASSETS (not exhaustive)
- Patented technologies, software and databases
- Brand recognition
- Marketing rights
- Licensing, Royalties Agreements, Trademarks, Copyrights
- Domain names
- Workforce i.e. specialist know-how
- Trade secrets, import quotas
- Established customer and supplier relationships
THE WINS:
- Taxation strategy
- Attracting talent
- Commercial credit worthiness
- Increased business valuation
- Increased investor interest
- Selling your business: price and speed
HUMAN IMPACT (HR): RETURN ON INTERVENTIONS
Any intervention should start with an analysis of the current situation in numbers and include interviews so as to provide a benchmark. Measurement tools can be so comprehensive that it is possible to pinpoint the root cause of a problem to a department or management style within a department. Whatever the action, it has to be improving a real priority problem that has impact on meeting business goals. It is important to understand the facts before implementing the wrong intervention.
In terms of poor diversity and inclusion as an example it could have many causes:
- Policies and procedures that do not fully engender diversity, fairness and inclusion
- The level of team engagement between senior management and front line team members
- Unintentional bias
